Making a Professional Indemnity Claim
A fundamental aspect of all Professional Indemnity insurance policies is that they are “Claims Made” policies. This means you must notify during the policy period any claim or circumstance that might give rise to a claim immediately you become aware of the circumstance. Claims or Circumstances notified to the insurer after expiry of the policy may not be covered, even though the event which gave rise to the claim may have occurred during the Period of Insurance.
Therefore, when completing a Professional Indemnity proposal form, you must ensure you disclose any and every “Circumstance which may give rise to a claim”. Otherwise, you run the risk of an insurer denying a claim made against your practice. Such a denial could be financially crippling to your practice.
