Abacus Australia Ltd is a company limited by guarantee. It is a “not for profit” organisation with any profits being retained in the company for the benefit of members.

All of the four directors and secretary listed hereunder are practising Chartered Accountants:

Abacus was set up in 1989 for the furthering of good accounting practice by members and to facilitate professional indemnity insurance for members at reasonable cost and to assist the member in the making and handling of claims.

Membership of Abacus is available to accountants recognised by :-

* Association of Taxation and Management Accountants

* CPA Australia

* Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia

* Institute of Public Accountants

* Taxation Institute

Some 3 or 4 times a year a Newsletter is issued to members setting out matters of interest.

Abacus has an agreement with Hiscock Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd of 121 Gardenvale Road Gardenvale Vic 3185 Tel. 03 9596 5292 Fax. 03 9596 1181(HIB) whereby HIB is appointed insurance broker to Abacus and its members. Under the agreement, for payment of a broker’s fee, HIB is required to arrange and handle professional indemnity insurance cover for the members of Abacus at a reasonable cost.

HIB and our former brokers have been successful in doing this since 1988.

Michael Bohan of HIB ably handles all matters relating to professional indemnity insurance on behalf of members.
